I look forward to November

I find it frustrating this time of year to watch TV. Primetime is filled with reality shows, Deal or No Deal, or reruns of episodes I've already seen at least twice. It gets worse on election years, because I also have to endure the endless political ads. The content rarely, if ever, consists of the candidate's platform, what s/he stands for; instead it always involves what the opponent doesn't stand for or what skeletons s/he has hanging in the closet. Am I to think as though it were opposite day when viewing these negative ads? If Candidate A f***ed up 20 years ago, then Candidate B never has, currently isn't, and never will do the same? If Candidate B authorized spending on new office furniture, then did Candidate A decline the new digs? And what would be the opposite of universal health care? Status quo?

I admit that I'm jaded, and I'll be the first to say that the average person isn't necessarily as educated as myself or those who surround me to actually vote for a candidate because of his/her plan of action. But do these campaign tactics really work? Are the ads effective in getting someone to vote for the other person? I'd have to guess so since every candidate is willing to spend millions of dollars to partake in the madness.

Baby steps…but I’m getting there

Last week marked a milestone in my return to running. I ran for 2 miles non-stop. Ok, I still ran slowly, but the fact that I didn't need walking breaks thrilled me! I've been fairly consistent with running regularly, but it is a mental challenge knowing I'm not yet at my pre-pregnancy fitness level. This is just the motivation I needed to keep running. Zoe's pediatrician says I can put her in a jogging stroller when she's about 4 months old, so I look forward to bringing her along!

As always, I love watching the Olympics (I'm really excited for the track and field events), so while I have a bunch of posts queued up (in my head), I probably won't be posting here until the Games are over.
